Students of the New Darca secondary school in Bat Yam were finalists in the competition of the Stockholm Water Competition Youth Prize for 2013. This is a competition for young writers who submit research articles in the field of water and its conservation in all aspects – scientific, social, historical, and artistic. The competition is international and is held every year in Stockholm, under the auspices of the Swedish royal family. The national competition is sponsored by the College of Engineering at the University of Tel – Aviv and with the support of Rachel and Manuel Klaczki and the Mellanox Company.
Eleventh graders Ben Goldstein, Daniel Wolbik and Ronen Yitzchakov, students at the new Darca secondary school in Bat Yam will present their work to the panel of judges in the finals, along with 10 other works selected from 50 works submitted to the competition. The Swedish Ambassador to Israel will also be present. The students will compete for a place in the delegation which will represent Israel at the international competition in Stockholm, Sweden. The students’ projects deal with entrepreneurship and offer a solution to save water in residential and public buildings. The students’ research was supported professionally and scientifically by physics teacher Yaniv Hafetz, a member of the teaching staff, and was encouraged by the school principal Dr. Galia Avishar.
